WHY WE MARCH
This is Singapore's FIRST-EVER Climate march. Singapore is an unique country positioned well economically and politically relative to other countries in the Southeast Asian region. In view of this, many international environmental NGOs and organisations are situated here in Singapore, a gateway to numerous networks in this part of the globe. However the misconception is that Singapore, being a first world nation with impeccable records in transparency and financial success, imposes strict mandates on environmental activism. The blanket of restrictions slow down the practice of advocating for environmental-oriented policies and changes. This stems from the governmental consideration of equitable business operations reciprocal to the global economy to insure the country’s productivity, not undermined by nature-driven principles. This march aims to provide an influential platform to voice out environmental concerns in the region as an alternative approach to shift Singapore’s mindset to sustainable public and corporate actions. It also serves to embed greater awareness and importance of the country's involvement in pro-climate actions and policies. Simultaneously, the event emphasises on the inclusiveness and alignment of environmental interests and corporate interests in Singapore. |
